Where to go for a romantic trip in Greece?

  1. Santorini

Santorini is the world-famous volcanic island located in the most southern part of the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean Sea, in Greece. Santorini is considered the top destination for weddings and honeymoons in Greece. The whitewashed homes and churches crown, the volcanic nature and dramatic caldera cliff, the picture-perfect villages such as Oia village, the majestic sunsets, and its award-winning wine culture, make it a unique place that closely resembles a fairytale or dream setting.
A great way to see some more of the island is to walk from Fira, the capital of the island to Imerovigli, which is the quietest and least touristy of these towns. It’s position at the highest point of the island makes for some nice panoramic viewpoints of the rest of Santorini.
Also, it is worthwhile to enjoy the sunset at the ‘’Lighthouse’’ in Akrotiri village. The lighthouse is situated in a peaceful place, surrounded by sea, ideal for blissful, romantic moments.  It is an excellent sunset-watching spot and the fact that it is not commonly-held makes it more special.
We recommend arrange romantic activities such as catamaran sunset cruises, private dinners with a caldera view, horse riding tours by the sea, beautiful walks and sunset wine tastings tours.

 

  1. Milos

Milos, as an island with volcano activity is one of the most exotic, mysterious and laid-back Greek islands in Greece, with a large harbour and picture-postcard villages.  The island has incredible remote beaches along its southern coast which are perfect for romantic moments. There are variety of things you can do while there, such as take a photo session in Sarakiniko, which is one of the most unique beaches in the world with white long horizontal rocks bent over the sea and crystal clear light blue waters.
Also, swim with your loved one in Kipos or Agios Ioannis, which are covered with endless sand and are extremely quiet and isolated. Take a boat trip to Kleftiko and Sykia. Sykia is an open ceiling cave, a distinctive natural marvel. The entrance to the cave is small and sailing boats cannot enter unless you are on a small boat or swim until the shore.

Take a stroll   to the picturesque alleys of ‘’Plaka’’ village. We recommend to enjoy the sunset, ideally at Kastro or at the church of Panagia Korfiatissa, and then have drink or a nice dinner.

 

  1. Mykonos

Mykonos or also known as the ‘’island of winds’’, is considered one of the most glamorous Greek islands. It might be known for its extreme nightlife and partying ways, however its romantic scenery, breathtaking sunsets and enticing beaches, make Mykonos an ideal destination also for couples who looking to enjoy their time together away from the stress of the city and increase their spark.

Take a stroll around the cobbled alleys of ‘’Liitle Venice’’the most photographed and romantic area of the island and enjoy a drink in one of the many cafés and cocktail bars that are situated precariously on the edge of the sea. The wooden balconies hanging above water offer an incredible view out to the Aegean Sea.

An integral part of Mykonos is the classic white windmills located in the towns of Chora, Ano Mera and Alefkandra.  They are creating a distinguishing beauty against the amazing island sunsets. The windmills make for a romantic backdrop, especially during sunset.

Visit the magnificent beaches od Mykonos island. Most of them are plenty of beach bars and parties but if you need a quite and more private beach with no beach clubs, Agios Sostis is a good choice. Also, you can book a boat tour in order to explore the deep blue waters of the island.

Also, since Mykonos is famous for its variety of fancy restaurants, it is worthwhile to arrange a romantic dinner at one of the fancy restaurants. You will find many choices from Greek gastronomy and creative restaurants to Italian, Ethnic and Japanese cuisine.

 

  1. Athens

‘’ Monastiraki, and Plaka the “Neighborhood of the Gods” due to its proximity to the Acropolis and its many archaeological sites. You can find plenty of small shops selling antiques, or actual hand painted icons, wood carvings, paintings, souvenirs and products from all around the world. Also, enjoy your walk and taste the Greek famous traditional delicacies such as Greek loukoumades with honey, ice cream with mastic flavor and souvlaki.

For stunning views spend some quality time at one of the most romantic spots in Athens – the Lycabettus Hill and enjoy the spectacular view of the sea and the nearby islands. It is also a romantic spot for sunset, as many romantic weddings take place there.

The ‘’Diomedes Botanic Garden’’ is also a perfect romantic setting. Go for a walk with your partner and explore many of the 3,500 species of plants spread across this 1.86-hectare land. The ambience and environment of this garden is lovely.

We recommend to enjoy a dinner or a drink at a rooftop restaurant in the center in Athens and admire the magical views of the city and Acropolis with lights.

If you are a sailing enthusiast, the Athens Riviera has many marinas from which you can set sail for beaches or small islands near Athens.

For a unique sea view and one of the best sunsets in the city, you’ll find Cape Sounion, where you’ll admire the Temple of Poseidon, one of the most significant monuments of Ancient Greece. The ancient Greeks dedicated the structure to the god of the sea and built it on a rocky cliff high above the Aegean.

 

  1. Ioannina

Ioannina is one of northern Greece’s most atmospheric and romantic cities.

City life revolves around the romantic, silver-gray the lake of’’Pamvotis’’. Enjoy a romantic walk at its banks and have a drink or a bite at the lakefront of café/restaurants.

Visit Ioannina Castle, which is built on a rocky peninsula on lake Pamvotis and take a stroll along the Old Town’s picturesque neighborhoods expanding around the Castle.

The walls of its old fortified city, enclose a tranquil quarter. You can easily explore on foot on pedestrian-only streets, where you will find an abundance of shops, museums, and various historical ruins.

Take a small boat and visit the small island of Ioannina, in the northeastern part of the city’s lake. There, a colorful settlement with traditional buildings and historic monastery.

If you drive a car, take the opportunity to visit Zagorohoria,( around 50 km driving from Ioannina city) a complex of 46 picturesque traditional villages built in a magical setting in the heart of nature. These beautiful villages stand out for their unique traditional architecture, impressive stone mansions and natural forest surroundings.

 

6.Nafplio

On the Saronic Gulf is the beautiful town of Nafplio, often dubbed one of the most romantic destination in Greece. The original capital of the modern State of Greece (1823–1834) boasts stunning Venetian architecture and Ottoman structures and offers a perfect romantic getaway. Nafplio is an excellent destination for couples enjoying walking. The Old Town’s heart is consistent of narrow streets, hidden squares and stunning neoclassical mansions. It is a coastal town with picturesque restaurants and cafés, dynamic town centers and nearby beaches. Nafplio is a combination of brilliant colors with its characteristic houses and mansions and impressive vestiges from its interesting past with three fortresses. The spectacular Palamidi castle, perched above Nafplio it is the greatest achievements of Venetian fortification architecture. The fort can be accessed either by the road which terminates at the eastern gate or by the famous steps  (supposed to number 999). Get to the top yields and admire stunning views over the whole area.

 

 7.Spetses

Spetses, or the island of aromas -a name given by the Italians during the Venetian, is an ideal destination for those who want to unwind and relax close from the Greek capital, just a two hours ferry ride away from Athens.

Spetses Town, the picturesque capital of the island, it’s all about aristocratic charm. Take a romantic stroll along the Old Harbour, explore through Neoclassical buildings, pretty cafes, chic boutiques and riding in horse carriages, since cars are forbidden.  Take an evening ride in any of the horse-drawn carts that operate on the island passing the picturesque Old Harbour, Agios Nicolaos, and back to the main town, Dapia.
A selection of yacht marinas and sophisticated restaurants complete the unique atmosphere of Spetses. Another enjoyable activity in Spetses island is hiking. Many old footpaths cross the island and lead to tiny chapels, small settlements, beautiful beaches and hilltops with breathtaking view to the sea. It is highly recommended to visit Spetses in September, where ‘Armata’ takes places, a celebration, in honor of the naval victories of Spetses, Hydra and Psara against the Turks in 1822. It is the most important festival on Spetses, which extends over the second week of September and includes mainly artistic events, such as traditional dances, theatrical performances, various exhibitions, and presentations.
